We are proud to present our pilot project, a key initiative in our efforts to Reduce and offset CO₂ emissions. generated by public transportation in Matera. This project marks a decisive step in our journey toward more sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation.
Our Commitment to Climate and Social Sustainability.
The impact of the climate change represents one of the most pressing and complex challenges of our time, with significant consequences for the environment, economy and society. The effects of climate change are manifested through phenomena such as rising average temperatures, rising sea levels, intensified extreme weather events, and altered seasonal cycles. These changes threaten the ecological balance and affect our daily lives, from food security to the stability of water resources.
Global warming, caused mainly by greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel combustion, deforestation and other industrial processes, is the main driver of this phenomenon. It is therefore essential to take concrete and immediate action.
We are aware of the key role that the transportation sector plays in greenhouse gas emissions and are committed to Reduce and offset our impact through innovative, certified and local solutions.
Our Path to Sustainability
We have embarked on a path of sustainability toward the Carbon Neutrality, starting with a detailed assessment of the carbon footprint of our operations for the year 2023. We focused on the operations of providing bus service at city of Matera, conducting an in-depth analysis that accurately quantifies the emissions associated with all of our operational activities. This includes passenger transportation, vehicle maintenance, and administrative office operations.
Through a rigorous methodological approach, we identified the main sources of direct greenhouse gas emissions, known as Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and developed effective strategies for their reduction, aiming for more sustainable management of public transport.
In collaboration with ALBERAMI Srl Benefit Society, pioneers of the carbon farming in Italy, we have launched an initiative to neutralize the carbon footprint of our bus fleet in Matera. Through regenerative farming practices on 150 hectares in southern Italy, we are contributing to the removal of 750 tons of CO₂., thus exceeding the 100% of calculated emissions.
A Certified and Cutting-Edge Project
The Alberami project was Validated by an international certification body And developed according to the standards of the registry International Carbon Registry. Alberami's methodology conforms to the ISO 14064-2:2019 standard, the industry standard for greenhouse gas emissions, and combines elements of well-known existing methodologies and innovative designs that have been widely tested on a large scale, including:
- C-Farms: a carbon farming methodology developed by Italian research and commercial entities, co-funded by the European Commission's LIFE 2020 Program (code "LIFE20 PRE IT/017").
- VM0042 by Verra: For elements related to soil carbon sequestration.
- AR-AMS0007 of Clean Development Mechanism: For elements related to agroforestry, afforestation and reforestation.
In accordance with the globally recognized standards and industry best practices, Alberami adopts a double precautionary mechanism, known as a 'buffer,' to ensure the sustainability and durability of the environmental benefits from its practices. 10% of the carbon credits generated by the projects are kept in a 'buffer pool,' a reserve of credits that acts as a guarantee against any carbon losses, ensuring that the overall impact of the project remains intact. In addition, an additional 10% of the credits is reserved in a second buffer, to be distributed to farmers from the sixth year of participation, subject to verification of continued compliance with the practices that generated that impact.
The Benefits of Carbon Farming
Carbon farming is an innovative solution that Captures carbon from the atmosphere and returns it to the soil. By supporting farms in the Southern Italy In the transition to regenerative practices, not only We offset emissions from our vehicles, but we also promote more sustainable management of agricultural resources by concretely supporting local farmers.
The Alberami project aims to guide Italian farmers toward adopting sustainable agricultural practices, such as tree planting and agroforestry.
By offering specialized support, technical knowledge and economic incentives, Alberami aims to overcome barriers to agronomic innovation for greener production in line with international standards. Carbon credits, the results of a careful measurement and certification process, Are critical in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and promoting regenerative agriculture, paving the way for a more sustainable Italian agricultural future.
The Technology
The Alberami project features a cutting-edge technology stack, designed to accurately measure greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and ensure concrete carbon removal in agricultural operations. Each innovative agricultural practice is analyzed and its impacts are shared with farmers and stakeholders through systematic data collection and the creation of transparent processes.
Alberami offers a comprehensive solution to maximize the transparency and authenticity of carbon credits generated, which includes:
- Satellite Surveys
- Surveys from drones
- Soil sampling
- Integration with IoT devices
- Blockchain technology

Map of Project Impact Areas.
This map highlights the Italian regions involved in our environmental and social sustainability project. The positioned icons indicate areas where farmers participating in the Alberami project are implementing regenerative and sustainable agricultural practices, increasing CO2 sequestration and improving soil quality. Each region represented is a concrete example of our commitment to sustainability and combating climate change.
